Cat, the proud owner of Decatur Gymnastics, has always had a deep passion for gymnastics. From a young age, she dedicated herself to the sport, working tirelessly to improve her skills. Her commitment led her to achieve Level 10 and earned her a scholarship to Texas Woman’s University, where she continued to hone her abilities on and off the mat.

For years, Cat dreamed of owning her own gymnastics gym. However, due to her husband’s career in the Air Force, which took their family around the world for the last 20 years, she had to put that dream on hold. As a military spouse, Cat embraced the challenges of relocating frequently and supporting her family wherever duty called. During this time, she continued to coach and stay connected to gymnastics, but owning a gym remained a distant dream—until now.

Now, with the support of her husband and family, Cat has finally been able to make her dream a reality. Her husband and children have been incredibly excited and eager for her to take on this long-awaited goal. In 2025, Cat took ownership of University of Gymnastics, now known as Decatur Gymnastics, and is honored to continue the incredible legacy of Dayna Rose and her family.

A Rich Legacy University of Gymnastics, established in 1979, has been a cornerstone of the gymnastics community for decades. With locations in Plano, Sherman, and Decatur, the gym has been dedicated to providing exceptional coaching and training for athletes of all levels. In 2025, Cat had the honor of taking ownership of the gym and continuing the Rose family's legacy, which has always prioritized excellence and creating a supportive, nurturing environment for gymnasts.

EDUCATION + TRAINING

At Texas Woman’s University, Cat earned a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, with a minor in Special Education. Her education provided her with a strong foundation in understanding the human body’s mechanics, as well as the tools to become a highly effective teacher and mentor for young gymnasts.

With 25 years of coaching experience, Cat has developed a deep understanding of gymnastics, as well as the unique qualities of each athlete she works with. As a member of the National Association of Women's Judges, she continually refines her knowledge of the sport and stays connected to the larger gymnastics community.

For Cat, coaching is about more than just teaching gymnastics. She is dedicated to helping young athletes build confidence, teamwork, and discipline—skills that will benefit them long after they leave the gym. Her goal is to equip each gymnast with the tools to succeed, both in the sport and in life.

Cat's incredibly grateful for the journey that brought her to Decatur Gymnastics and is excited about the future. With her passion, expertise, and dedication to the sport, she is committed to helping the next generation of gymnasts achieve their full potential—both in gymnastics and in life.

COACH + DANCE INSTRUCTOR

meet avery Growing up in a military family meant Avery moved often, but every new place brought fresh opportunities to grow. She spent seven years in Germany, where she joined both the dance team and the gymnastics team, eventually working her way up to Level 6 in gymnastics. She also trained at a local studio that specializes in Russian ballet, where she developed a deep appreciation for technique, discipline, and the artistry of classical dance. It was in Germany that Avery truly began to understand how much she loved not just performing, but challenging herself physically and creatively.

When her family moved to Alaska, new doors opened. Avery entered her first dance competitions and attended her first conventions, diving deeper into the world of dance and performance. High school brought another chapter—she joined the gymnastics team and stayed with it through her junior year.

Landing in Texas during high school could have been a challenge—but instead, it sparked something new. Avery joined the drill team at Northwest High School, experiencing a whole new style of dance that blended precision, teamwork, and showmanship. That year, she danced with her team in New York City in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and even performed for the new Dr. Phil show, and on top of that she and her team got second place in Nationals.
Now graduated and attending the University of North Texas, Avery is majoring in Business Entrepreneurship and minoring in Dance. She’s coaching gymnastics and laying the foundation for her dream: to one day open a dance program of her own. With years of experience, passion, and a heart full of ambition, Avery is ready to inspire
others—just as dance has inspired her.

With an incredible 22 years of experience in gymnastics, cheer, and dance, she brings a true passion for teaching and a wealth of knowledge to our program. Jayden spent 16 years as an athlete and has been coaching for the past 11 years, most recently in Lubbock, Texas, where she led successful programs in all three disciplines.

Since joining us, Jayden has already made a big impact by doubling the size of our Toddler Play Group and helping us launch our brand-new Cheer program.

A letter from "Coach Dayna" Rose

March 20, 2025

To our treasured University of Gymnastic families,

It is with a full and happy heart that I announce the sale of the University of Gymnastics and my retirement. This change was effective March 14, 2025 and was to someone you all know and love Catherine “Coach Cat” Schnoes.

Since our foundation in 1979, U of G has been committed to providing a healthy and encouraging environment for young children. Together with their families, we’ve helped thousands of young children learn the ideals of confidence, commitment, and team - work.

We’ve watched our students learn to work independently, learn how to work through fear, learn the value of friendship, and experience the triumph of achieving a goal.

Supportive and loving families like yours are the reason we have continued to thrive at U of G for nearly five decades. There is no doubt that Coach Cat and her family’s beliefs, values and goals align with our mission here at U of G, making this a perfect fit.

I will miss the families, friends and  children a great deal, I do have plans to stop in regularly to see everyone.

This has been an amazing community to be a part of and I look forward to watching all the fabulous things coming to Decatur Gymnastics!

Sincerely,

“Coach Dayna” Rose
